BoxfordDems discuss immigration and local support groups
Haverhill Mutual Aid
We are grateful to Bernadette Girasek of West Boxford, who joined us at our meeting on June 23 to discuss Haverhill Mutual Aid.
Haverhill Mutual Aid is a group that supports immigrant neighbors who are experiencing a crisis, for example, loss of housing or employment or having a family member who has been detained by ICE.
“Mutual aid” is not charity, but an organization that provides direct logistical support for people who need it. Examples include connecting people with legal aid, attending court hearings, and liaising with local organizations that can provide food or clothing.
Haverhill Mutual Aid is affiliated with LUCE, the Immigrant Justice Network of Massachusetts. Bernadette provided information about how to support and get involved with the organization. If you would like to learn more, please contact Terri Teleen (vicechair@boxforddems.org), who can put you in contact with Bernadette.
